Welcome to Your Silk Veil!
Your new weighted silk veil is in your hands… and you’re moving, grooving, and practicing… now what?!
Take a few moments to settle in and connect with your silk. It’s an extension of you, your energy, and your whims.
The more you play with it and master how to move it, the more it will become intuitive and feel like a part of you. (I have instructional videos to help with this, or come study with me in person!)
If you’re dancing outside, listen to the wind and your environments. Here you get to follow the veil and let your body direct the weight, just a bit.
If you’re choreographing something for a show, put the time in to KNOW your prop. this helps SO MUCH… so when onstage you don’t get so tangled or tussled if something goes funny with the veil… it definitely can, and this is where you get to show your prowess and skill in getting out of a tangle under pressure.
and most of all, have fun. happy dancing. and let the movement guide you to new depths of your soul.
Read on and watch on for lots of great content to get you started.

Care and Keeping
of your Gaea Lady Weighted Silk Veil
Welcome to your new silk veil! I hand dye & sew each unique creation with love. Dancing with silk invites a spacious flow that transports the mind body to calm serenity, healing, & sensuality. Meanwhile, it invigorates the body & increases spatial awareness.
Silk transports you to new spaces inside each moment. It is both warming & cooling, catches the air ethereally. It is strong, delicate, & sheer. Silk is the instigator of ancient trade routes & has been a prized Chinese technology for thousands of years. Each strand of silk is made by a tiny silkworm to spin their cocoon, then carefully unwound, processed, & woven into fabric.
Treat this weighted veil kindly & it will last years!
Dance. Play. Flow. Express.
Hold:
Grasp the long edge of the silk & hold the weighted edge in your dominant hand, 1-3 feet from the weighted corner, as you like. Use the weight as an extension of the arm, do not hold on the corner but allow the corner to fly and carry the edge of the veil with your arm movements. Your non-dominant hand can hold the veil, or not. Explore & experiment! Get curious, and relax into the flow. Peep my videos online to get you started.
Care, Store, Travel:
Keep your veil from prolonged direct sunlight, harsh chemicals, hot water, flames, staining liquids, & sharp things that may tear the silk (like long nails, high heels, or spikes). For travel, fold neatly into a plastic bag. To store, hang longways in a plastic garment bag.
Clean:
Use delicate soap. Hand wash in a tub or machine on extra-delicate in cold water. Spot wash by hand. Vibrant colors may still bleed. Hang flat to dry.
Smooth, Steam:
Spray wrinkles lightly with water & hang flat or wave around to dry.
Use a hand steamer, or iron on “silk” setting.
Toss in the dryer on “air fluff/no heat” with a damp towel, hang immediately afterwards. If your veil is brightly colored it can bleed, do not let it touch other fabric (or itself) if it gets wet.
Edges & Strings:
Your veil is (usually) only hemmed on the 2 short sides for optimal flow. If you find the white retainer string out of the selvedge edge as you flow, carefully tease it out naturally. Your veil will not unravel.
Should you need a repair : contact me and I’ll walk you thru the process OR mail it to me and I’ll fix it!
