I started my flow arts journey with poi, at the recommendation of other flow artists. I found it to be SO hard, but rewarding.  I quickly became quite obsessed with it, and starting thinking in poi patterns. However, somewhere along the line someone told me I *wasn’t* good at poi, and shouldn’t perform it, so I stopped.  (whatever, I really shouldn’t have listened to them!). I kept flagging, working with my veils, hoops, fans, and double staves. 

Yet, I realized that poi was truly the foundation for all that I was doing with the flags and veils.  The silk flow concepts that I share with you are rooted partly in poi flow.  

So, here, I urge you urgently to pick up or make yourself a pair of poi to jumpstart your flag experience.  The biggest thing that I hear from people is that your non-dominant hand has a hard time keeping up with your dominant hand - and that many of you don’t even use the flag pairs you have!  So - truly - here I offer you this opportunity to go back to the infinite potential of poi and play from this place where you can get superb grounding for your double handing flag and veil flow.  ;)
